Hey Girls!
What a great idea to do this Arlene!  I am so happy that you both are doing this tri!!
My training is slow but sure. . . (I figure I can walk the 14 miles if I have to!)  I am starting to be more consistent with my workouts.  I found a good training plan on http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/
It starts out real easy and takes 22weeks.  It's free and printable.  Today, I ran 1 mile and biked 5.  I think I may start getting up early 3 days out of the week and swim/workout at the gym.
As for equipment. . . . I found great goggles.  Aquasphere by Kaiman.  I love them!!  And just recently I saw triathletes reviewing them as wonderful.  They are more pricey that sprint goggles but wort every penny!!  As for a bike.  I have been looking on Craig's list as well.  Chuck (who knows bikes) and I have not found any value there yet.  We may just buy a new bike for me!! YEAH!
Chuck doesn't like the way I verve in traffic trying to change gears on his old 12 speed road bike.  So, Jaime, we will have to talk bikes before you purchase.  There are some features you may want to make sure you have.  (ie-rapid fire shifting).
Talk later!!  Thanks for the motivation!

Gathering supplies

I figure that my first step should be getting a sports bathing suit and getting a bike to ride. For that matter I really need new running shoes as well. At least I have a few months to gather these things. I am thinking of starting to look on Craig's list for a bike. Any suggesions? I have always wanted to do a tri-athalon so I am very excited to do this! :) I am working out on a pretty consistent basis but I need to start looking into swimming and working on the stationary bike as a start! How is everyone else doing?
Happy Training!!

Inaugaral entry

Well, I am starting this blog to help us train "together", even if the miles seperate us a bit. I think we are all somewhat crazy to do this... my first race is a triathalon. I think I will look into a little 5k or something. Anywho...Let this place be a source of inspiration and encouragement to get our tushes in gear and start training (notice I am calling training, not exercising, like we have a goal or something.) Anyway, need to start dinner to get kids off to baseball game and practice.

Oh, I did about a 3-4 mile bike today with the kids in the pull-behind. It wasn't distance training, but I will say that it was strength training!!! And it drizzled for most of it and then rained at the end. The kids stayed dry though. Last stop was Greaters-they are having a sale. Yum, but more on that later.

Love!! Arlene
